City of GyorThe CityGyor, this mellow and colourful town is situated half way between Vienna and Budapest, and hosts a vast array of architectural, cultural and natural treasures.The radial road network of the settlement connects Slovakia from the north, Austria from the west, Lake Balaton from the south and Budapest from the east to the town, the heart of Kisalfold ("The Small Plains"). Gyor, Hungary's second richest town in historic buildings outside Budapest has won Europe-award for the protection of the historic buildings, in acknowledgment of the reconstruction of the Baroque centre of the town. Sights in GyorBASILICAThe Bishopric of Gyor was foundated by Saint Istvan in 1000-1009. At the end of the 14th century gothic capelle was built on the basilica, where Saint Laszlo’s herma and Apor Vilmos’s graves can be find. SAINT LASZLO’S HERMA Saint Laszlo’s herma is one of the most important religious remembrance with the Holy Crown and Holy Arm. BISHOPRIC CASTLE AND PALACE Under the castle and palace roman ruins was found. Visitors can see a hall from the 14th century, gothic capelle. The castle and palace was restored in 1984. BISHOPRIC TREASURY AND LIBRARY Treasury mostly containes ecclesiastical things: bishops, lords was given valuable surprises to the church.
